Joe Rogan is beefing up security to protect his $14.4 million mansion in Austin, Texas. The podcast superstar has hired an “elite” team of armed security guards amid backlash toward him and his popular podcast. The guards are “armed and dangerous” and have been parked outside the eight-bedroom mansion around the clock.
Rogan moved into the nearly 11,000 square foot home after signing an exclusive deal with Spotify in May 2020. Sources say Spotify dropped over $100 million to ink the deal, but last week Business Insider reported the number was much higher and closer to $200 million.
A source close to Rogan says that there are “dozens of people a day” that show up to the property from all around the country. Sometimes visitors arrive at the property to take pictures at the gate, and other times they drop off various items into his mailbox.
“Obviously any crazy could turn up and try anything. He’s got supporters as well as enemies, it’s fair to say,” a source familiar with the matter told The Sun. “Having the security team there is pre-emptive just in case things take a turn for the worse.”
The elite security teams are reportedly inside Rogan’s estate as well, where he records his podcast.
“It’s pretty wild and he doesn’t want anything to ever get out of hand, especially now after the Covid stuff,” The source continued. “It’s just better to be safe than be sorry.”
The podcast king came under fire after he hosted COVID-19 vaccine critic Dr. Robert Malone on his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience. Rogan also took some heat for his interview with top cardiologist Dr. Peter McCullough, who insisted that the Covid pandemic might have been “planned.”
As a result of the backlash, Neil Young pulled his entire catalog from the streaming platform, which prompted others to follow suit. Despite artists ditching the platform, Spotify declined their $100 million man, but they did agree to remove over 100 past episodes of the show.
The podcaster received additional criticism after a viral video montage showed him repeatedly using a racial slur. Rogan apologized for the clip over the weekend.
The podcaster is likely dropping some serious mint on the beefed-up security detail. It’s not clear exactly how much Joe is paying, but similar services cost $518,400/year – $864,000/year for a single guard, and Joe has a few of them.
